Captain Mark
Captain Mark is originally from Victoria, BC, Canada and currently lives in the US with his wife Barb. His relationship with the ocean began with windsurfing at 14-years-old when his family moved to Hawaii and he has been sailing since!
He pursued a career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care and later went on to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. He built a multidisciplinary clinic in Bend Oregon with a central focus on Functional Medicine, Nutrition and Rehabilitation with emphasis on patient education and prevention.
Now, 40 years later and retired from healthcare, he has not lost his passion for the ocean and adventure. To enter this midlife phase of life, he bought a 2023 Lagoon 42 catamaran (Bluevana) in La Rochelle, France in March 2023. After doing upgrades and custom modification to get Bluevana ready for offshore sailing, he began his adventure of sailing from France to the Caribbean via the Canary Islands and Cape Verde.
Captain Mark has found a lot of satisfaction sharing his love for the ocean on Bluevana sailing adventures. Instead of offering traditional captained charters, he prefers to offer cabins on Bluevana for more of a live-a-board experience.
SAILING EXPERIENCE:
Although he has owned many boats and been sailing most of his life, in 2016 Captain Mark pursued formal credentials from the American Sailing Association from Nautilus Sailing School and achieved his 101, 103, 104 and 114 certifications.
He has sailed a wide range of monohulls and catamarans over the years and has been fortunate to sail in Canada, USA, Caribbean and the Mediterranean. He has Captained Bluevana for over 7000 miles with most being offshore , crossing the Atlantic and extensively in the Caribbean.
